Status Update

Wow. It's been a while.

Here's what's up.

Cantaloupe: Apparently that one delicious melon was the only one. The leftover plant is pretty scraggly but there's still one yellow flower so maybe there's hope for another melon. It seems pretty late in the year for that though.

Pumpkin: Wasn't watered (ahem, not pointing any fingers) when I was traveling for work and the teeny, tiny sprout died.

Tomatoes: Stopped producing like crazy for a while, but now there are a bunch of green/yellow/orange tomatoes that are going to be ready to pick again soon. There are also tons of little yellow flowers on the plants. These things are going to continue producing until it starts snowing! With the temperatures coming down, they're not ripening nearly as fast as they were in July/August, which is actually good news.

Peppers: For some reason, the jalapenos have started to grow like crazy in the past couple weeks. I have a good 10 jalapenos on the plant that are growing slowly but surely. The bell peppers have their very first tiny little pepper. What the...? Why now?

Broccoli/Cauliflower: Both grew really big but never really did much else. I replanted them in hopes of getting a fall crop. They're still pretty tiny so I'm not sure what they'll do before frost.

Beans: Were torn up a while ago but I replanted them in hopes of getting a fall crop from them too. They're growing pretty well but I'm not sure if they'll get big enough to give me some fall beans.

Watermelon: I got one melon and it's still on the vine. It hasn't really changed size in the past few weeks. The cucumber beetles have eaten some of the outer skin, but I think it'll still be okay on the inside. I'm going to pick it this weekend when my family is in town and show them the fruits of my labor (literally.)

Herbs: The basil is fine. Maybe a little overly tall, but thriving inside (where there are no squirrels to dig it up.) The oregano is small and not really growing. It's been tiny sprouts for months. The cilantro died off a while ago. I'm going to replant because I'm keeping it inside and I assume it'll grow just fine all winter long. I was pretty excited about the herbs but they just weren't as successful as I had hoped.
